Is communication one of the most important issues of our time? I think it is. What do you think?

There’s a problem: Communication is being polluted – to the point of annoying ridiculousness – by so many ads that it is nearly impossible to cut through the fog and get to the message without being bombarded by flashing, insistent demands for your attention that – increasingly – can’t even be turned off. I don’t know about you, but I detest it, to the point of feeling like advertisers do not deserve my business. I don’t blame them – I blame the forces of ad dissemination, if you can figure out who I mean.

Every day I get a lot of opportunities to think about how to communicate with people without ads getting in the way. This idea – CONNECT – is my trial answer. If it works, we’ll put it in all of our websites.

We know, and work with, a huge number of people with amazing skills and valuable information we all can benefit from learning about – without having “ads” get in the way. This website – and the others I’m responsible for – are resolutely ad-free.

That means, we don’t even push the stuff we do. OK, just a little bit – but we try to make really valuable free content available to our networks, on the basis that if readers think we’ve got something they need, they’ll come to us – without being hammered over it. That actually works really well for us! We showcase the skills and knowledge of those we are connected to – and want to share those connections. That’s what CONNECT is about.
